The Sneaker
Martin Cartledge is the founder of Weekend World label.
Weekend World is the solo project of Producer Martin Cartledge. Martin hails from deepest, darkest West Yorkshire...Bradford to be precise. When not bothering sheep on the moors, Martin started developing a love of dance music from going to clubs like Back to Basics, Up yer Ronson & The Orbit. As luck would have it Martin found himself to be a bit useful in the recording studio, and hence in order to getting a proper job (although his Mum does say he had a paper round once, but was sacked for laziness) He decided to become a record producer.
Skip forward a few years into 1999 and Weekend World Recordings was born. During the next couple of years the label quickly gained a reputation for releasing quality music that filled the gap between deep and progressive house. The somewhat diverse range of musical styles on the label means that there aren't many DJs out there that haven't had at least one Weekend World track in their box at some time during the past 6 years. Weekend World tracks have also appeared on many a mix CD including those compiled by John Digweed, Danny Howells, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Layo & Bushwacka.
As well as putting out 15 releases between 1999 & 2003, Martin was commissioned to do a number of Weekend World remixes for artists such as Lexicon Ave, Wamdue Project, Francesco Farfa, Echomen & Circulation. Deep Dish also signed the track 'The Word' to their Yoshitoshi label
